A beginners guide to fitness
Want to get fit, but don't know where to start? Here are some ways to make that first step easier.
Maybe you didn't keep your New Years' resolution to improve your health and get fit at the beginning of the year? Well the good news is its never too late to start!
Starting out on your journey to getting fit can be a daunting task to think about. It may raise questions in your head, like what if I make a fool of myself in the gym? Or maybe you don't want to join a gym as you feel intimidated or self conscious. Well it doesn't have to be this way, as to begin with you can start in your own home or outside; then progress to a gym if you want to when you feel more comfortable. There are many things you can do to get fit without needing to join a gym. You could start by taking gentle walks outside and progress to speed walking, get a bicycle and go for a ride along a flat cycle path, or simply start with body weight exercises and stretches at home. Great success always starts with a small step.
Getting fit doesn't have to cost anything at all if you are on a budget either. You can simply start with exercises at home using your body weight as resistance. Examples of body weight exercises you can do at home include press ups, sit-ups and floor dips.
Of course you may want to start off with something less strenuous, so you could do an easy yoga class (many different types are available) or just a 30 minute walk.
If you find that you lack motivation to start or keeping it going, consider booking yourself in on a class or hiring a good personal trainer. You will probably find that many classes are available in local community halls or churches, so again you can just pay each time you go without having to sign up to a gym membership.
So you can see that there are many ways to getting and staying fit, and it doesn't have to be hard or costly. Once you have done it for the first time it will seem a lot easier, so try a few things out and find something that makes you feel good and you enjoy!
