Best Running Buddies
If anyone is thinking of taking up running but is worried they won’t have the motivation then try having a running buddy. Here are our top 5 buddies…
Man’s Best Friend
The most loyal and obedient (sometimes) running buddy is a dog. Firstly you can run at your own pace and secondly you get to have some company without feeling the need to talk. It’s also a great timesaver when you combine both yours and your dog’s exercise.
The Best Mate
Now this running buddy can lengthen your running time and increase lung capacity from the all the gossiping. You get to have a catch up and take your mind off the run whilst spending quality time with your best mate. You can also push each other on pace; a little healthy competition is never a bad thing. However, if you feel like you will be chatting more than running maybe this running buddy is not for you. Why not get a group of friends together and meet weekly in different locations to add some variety to your runs.
Now no-one wants to look bad in front of their other half but this is why you’re more likely to run faster and with better form whilst out with your partner. It’s also a great way to spend quality time with one another. They (not sure who they are) do say that couples who train together, stay together.
Maybe talking and socialising is the last thing you want to do on your run. Well why not make an amazing playlist to motivate you. Put all your favourite songs onto your iPod and off you go! Enjoy some ‘me time’ and run at your own pace. Try and mix up both high and low tempo tracks to vary the run. Often an upbeat tune will get you moving faster for the main bulk of the workout where a slower more relaxing song is perfect when cooling down.
If you run to de-stress or unwind then the perfect running buddy for you is Mother Nature herself. Research countryside trails and take in the beauty of the great outdoors. A sunset or sunrise run can turn out to be one of the most beautiful workouts you’ll do.
