5 of the best motivational fitness mantras
Sometimes, even the best of us need a little nudge in the right direction to get us moving. Finding the motivation and willpower to keep fit on a regular basis is hard, but a little support can go a long way (and incidentally, make our limbs go a long way too!). Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again while keeping these inspirational fitness quotes in mind.
Strive for progress, not perfection
Too many of us can be under the impression that an exercise session of any kind must be perfect to count for anything. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Ever remember that old adage your parents once taught you, ‘It’s the taking part that counts’? Listen to it once in a while - it’s unquestionably true. Any form of exercise is an effort on your part and never a waste of time. The more you focus on simply ‘taking part’ in regular exercise and taking things at your own unique pace, the closer you will find yourself to viewing the finish line in sight.
It’s the start that stops most people
Whether you have chosen to exercise for weight loss or to improve your general wellbeing, the first day of the ‘new you’ will be the most important of all and subsequently, the hardest. Unfortunately, the pressure to see our new plans through can stop some people even attempting the first step, but these fears can easily be overcome by putting long-held thoughts into action. Starting a new fitness routine can throw up plenty of mental road blocks but the best thing you can do to silence these doubts is by taking a stand. More walk, less talk!
Every journey begins with a single step
Take the time every once in a while to admire grand architecture or a complex piece of music. Chances are, these were not sketched out in a week, and neither will a new exercise routine bring about any immediate results for you. Grant yourself realistic yet positive expectations as you take that first bold step onto the pavement, the exercise mat or the treadmill. Every end goal may be different, but each first step is filled with largely the same fear and doubts about making progress. Just as losing weight starts by eliminating one type of food from your diet, the road to becoming fitter can begin with a simple morning stroll.
If you wait for perfect conditions, you’ll never get anything done
Let’s get this clear - there is no such thing as ‘the perfect time’. Any morning, evening or rainy day is the perfect opportunity to make a start on your new fitness regime. When people constantly avoid making an important change in their lives, it’s all too easy to make excuses and conjure up the ideal time in which to achieve something. The harsh truth is, if you cling on to this security blanket of the perfect time period, you will never achieve anything you set out to. Don’t wait until the snow has cleared - go out for that morning jog! Ditch the washing up for a yoga session and tape the latest episode of Game of Thrones and go for a run instead!
Know your limitations - then defy them
One of the many positive things to come out of regular exercise is that you soon start to learn your strengths and weaknesses. What you learn from the latter will enable you to test your limitations and take bold steps to overcome them. As you begin to familiarise yourself with your strengths, you can start opening yourself up to new challenges such as taking up a new sport or signing yourself up for a marathon. Finding your unique groove is one of the most enjoyable parts of developing a fitness routine and however far you stretch it is up to you. Determine your potential, test it and make a bold change.
