Yoga poses to detox your body
It's no secret that practicing yoga can help cleanse and detox as it strengthens and stretches. Here are the best yoga poses for detoxing your internal organs.
Twisting poses to stimulate the digestion
All twisting yoga poses stimulate the stomach, digestive organs and liver, helping combat bloating, constipation or trapped wind and speeding up a sluggish digestive system.
Chair twists (Uttkatasana pose)
This simple side to side twist eases digestive problems.
Lower into a squat, with feet, ankles and knees together. Squeeze the legs in to each other.
Keep the chest high but lean the torso forward - don't slump over the abdominal area.
Put your hands together in a prayer pose in front of your chest and press them together, keeping the elbows out to the side.
Twist to one side and hook your bottom elbow over the outside of the knee. Hold this and then swap to the other side.
Forward folding twist (Prasarita padottanasana pose)
This deeper twist works the digestive system even more.
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, and bend down into a forward bend with legs straight. Reach your right hand to your left ankle (if you can't reach, slide it down the outside of the leg as far as you can go).
Twist the torso, chest and head, so you are looking up at the ceiling.
Take the other hand up and overhead, with the hand pointing to the ceiling.
Open up the chest so the arms are outstretched in the forward fold position.
Lean back slightly into the stretch and breathe deeply.
Change to the other side.
Seated twist (marichyasana pose)
Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you.
Bend our right knee and bring the foot in, placing it inside the left thigh.
Hug the right knee into your chest with your left arm.
Lift your right arm up and twist the body as you reach your fingers to the floor behind your back.
Breathe in, lengthen the spine, and deepen the twist as you breath out.
Hold for a few breaths and then swap sides.
Cat and cow poses
Start on all fours with hands under shoulders and knees under hips.
For the cat pose, look to the floor, drop the chest and round the back upwards, bringing the belly to the spine.
For the cow pose, drop the belly, lift your head, and feel the stretch in the abdominals.
Move between these two poses to stimulate the internal organs.
