10 Christmas gifts for a healthier, happier 2016
You still have three days left to get your last-minute Christmas shopping done, so don't panic if you're the kind of person who's left everything until Christmas Eve (men of the world, we're looking at you!) Luckily the Expertrain team has come to the rescue, with this handy list of 10 Christmas gifts for a healthier, happier new year. The only question is, which one will you buy the health and fitness addict in your life?
#1. Spread a little happiness
A self-help book is a great gift for your friend who's big on New Year's resolutions, and one of our favourites has to be The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. The author dedicated a year of her life to a happiness project and this book is the result. Over 1.5 million copies have been sold, so you might want to pick up a copy for yourself and your nearest and dearest this year!
#2. Run to the beat
Fitness gadgets such as a heart rate monitor are a great choice for friends and family who love to workout. Keeping check on your cardiac performance is vital during your workout to assess how hard your body is working - and it's great for HIIT. There are plenty to choose from out there, but we love the Fitbit band, available at Curry's and other high street retailers.

#3. Skip the weight gain
Help your nearest and dearest prevent piling on the pounds this festive season by buying them a skipping rope! Ideal for busy professionals, skipping is great for a quick burst of exercise and you can do it anywhere - at home, at the office or even in the park. Skipping is a popular warm-up for boxers, so you're in good company!
#4. Healthier hamper
A hamper always goes down a treat at Christmas, and for a different spin on a festive classic, you could treat them to an organic fruit and vegetable box (or a subscription) with Abel & Cole. If you fancy something a bit more indulgent, hit your local health food store and market and fill a wicker basket or box with some guilt-free goodies - you're supporting local businesses as well as buying healthy treats!

#5. Give the gift of yoga
Friends who have always wanted to give yoga a go will love a yoga gift voucher or a block of classes this Christmas. The perfect workout for mind and body, yoga is just what's needed to escape stress and unwind this Christmas, and some 'me' time is probably going to be welcomed!
#6. Float away
Busy mums or stressed out professionals will enjoy a flotation experience, and you can book a session or treat them to an experience gift voucher at flotation chambers across the country. This is a great way to relax and enjoy some time out - we recommend Floatworks in East London, if you're in the area.

#7. Run in style
Have a friend who loves to look good whilst working out? Why not treat them to some of the latest, funkiest workout gear around? We love Lulu Lemon's offerings, and although you might be too late to order in time for Christmas, this is ideal for those friends you won't see until the new year - or you could always spoil them with a gift voucher that never expires!
#8. Creative Christmas
A recipe book packed with gorgeous photography is a great way to start the new year, and perfect for anyone who loves to cook. We're huge fans of Deliciously Ella's cookbook as well as the Hemsley and Hemsley offering, but a quick browse around your local bookstore will reveal plenty of paleo, vegan, gluten-free or refined sugar-free cookbooks to choose from.
#9. Satisfy their sweet tooth
For those who can't get enough of the sweet stuff, how about a box of vegan cupcakes or cakes? We love Ms Cupcake in Brixton, London's first vegan bakery. If you're up north, Grams of Edinburgh specialise in raw, vegan cakes that are free of dairy, refined sugar and gluten - did we mention they taste amazing?

#10. List book
If you've got a friend or family member who loves to-do lists, or just somebody who could benefit from being a little more organised in 2016, then get yourself down to your nearest Paperchase and check out their fab range of list books. These nifty little books make the 'to-do' list a really fun experience, with multicoloured post-it style lists and sticky notes to keep you organised. You're more likely to be productive and stay on top of everything next year if you write it down!
