5 Feel-good tips for an instant mood boost
Got the Monday blues? It's that time of day when we're all starting to feel a bit tired - but that's nothing an after-work gym session won't fix! In case you're in more serious need of help, we've got 5 tips for an instant mood boost that will leave you feeling happy it's Monday (we promise!)
#1. Get some energy
Whilst having a nap at your desk might seem like a nice idea, in reality that's not always possible, and it can be tempting to reach for the nearest sugary cereal bar or snack to fuel your dipping energy levels. Eat a high-protein snack instead - some sliced turkey with cream cheese or apple with peanut butter - and you'll not only enjoy a more sustainable energy boost, you'll also feel happier too. Energy levels can be linked to mood, and when you're hangry (hungry and angry!) you're probably not going to very productive, let's face it!
No time for a prolonged meditation session? We've said it before and we'll say it again - One Moment Meditation! This fab little YouTube video teaches you the power of meditating for just a moment, and you can do it anywhere, at any time. Try it right now and experience a little more happiness in your afternoon - and hang in there, it's almost home time!
#3. Hit the market
All those colourful, vibrant, fresh fruits and vegetables? They're going to create an amazing meal after you've been to the gym. If you're lucky enough to live in a big city where fruit and veg markets are around every corner, pick up some produce at yours tonight after work and get your five-a-day in before bedtime. Market produce is often grown by local suppliers, so you're supporting the local economy, plus it's often cheaper than the fruit and veg you pick up on your weekly shop. It's a more personal service too, so you can chat to the friendly market traders and often barter for a good deal on a box or punnet of your favourite fruit! Smoothie time anyone?
#4. Get an early night
Yes, it's true that you can sleep when you're dead, but you might also find you'll live a lot longer if you get the occasional early night. We're not suggesting it should be lights out at 7pm every night, but curling up in bed with a good book at 9pm instead of staying up on Netflix until 2am will not only make you feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed the next morning, it will also make it less likely that you'll experience depression. Getting enough sleep is so important for your energy levels, concentration and mood, and even one sleepless night can make life's stresses harder to deal with! So plan an early night tonight after your workout and dinner and prepare for a terrific Tuesday!
#5. Laugh out loud
Stand-up comedy videos, humorous podcasts - even that guy in the office who tells stupid jokes - all can help you to feel better about your Monday! Laughing releases feel-good endorphins that can actually boost your mood, and it makes you more attractive too, which is a bonus if you're single and looking to meet somebody new! We're not recommending browsing YouTube for comedy videos during that important meeting, but if you're working alone or have a break in your schedule, take a few minutes to watch a funny animal video or read an amusing story - it could turn your day around!
