10 Marvellous Steps to a Healthier and Happier You

1-  Don’t try to please everyone

It is a fact that you are never going to please everyone. The only thing you can do is be yourself, do what you think is right and make yourself happy.  Too much time is spent trying to impress others and not enough time is spent making your own choices. You’ll probably find that by making your own life choices you’ll meet more like-minded people that you will be more compatible with and thus like you for you.

2-  Live in the Moment

Something that happened in the past is just that. You can’t change past events and thinking about them isn’t going to alter them. The only thing you can do is live in the present and live each day to the full (as cliché as that sounds). Similarly, there is no point worrying about things that might happen. Stressing about the future is absolutely unnecessary and won’t prevent its outcomes. Live your life in the present and make decisions based on your thoughts and feelings that day and believe that in that moment you made the right decision.

3-  Focus on the POSITIVE, not the negative

Ever looked into the mirror and thought “my hair could look better…. my stomach could be flatter…. my legs could be longer”? Well stop! How about instead of focusing on the bad points, you focus on the good points. If everyone looked in the mirror everyday and listed everything they liked about themselves there would be a lot more self appreciative people and a lot more happiness. And people, more often than not, like happy people. Take 10 seconds out of your day and think of everything you have to be grateful for. I think you’ll find it will put a smile on your face.

But, don’t be one of those “I’m going to tell everyone how happy I am” people. It’s just not cricket.

4-  Surround Yourself With Radiators Not Drains

There are some people in life that radiate positivity and are mood elevators. But, there are others that drain the life from you and can cause a negative effect. You need to surround yourself with positive energy so you can achieve your goals and ambitions. The only thing Drains do is suck the life out of you and make everything harder. Everyone will know a few Radiators and Drains and it is important to recognise who has a positive influence in your life.

5-  Travel

Do you sit on the sofa and watch holiday programmes? Or listen to friends speak about travel experiences and wish you went with them? Then GO! You may not get the opportunity to go again. How often do you hear people talking about the mistake they made by taking that trip to India or those hideous beaches in Bali? That’s right… Never. Travel and take in the culture, food and spirit of other countries. Learn from others and open up your own mind.

6-  Eat well

In the UK at the moment 64% of adults are classed as overweight or obese. This is because we are eating more fats, sugars and oils as they appear cheaper and are more readily available. How often do you walk into a supermarket and are greeted by those “on offer” cookies, muffins and crisps? Remember you are what you eat! Fill your body with fresh, organic produce and you will reap the rewards. You will feel like you have more energy to tackle that long day at work AND the gym afterwards. You’ll feel healthier, look healthier have a spring in your step. Eating well doesn’t have to be expensive or hard work: stick to simple meals such as fish or meat with plenty of vegetables and fruit. Get yourself to your local grocer for the best deals on fresh fruit and vegetables. And remember to never go to the supermarket on an empty stomach as you’ll be more tempted to buy those naughty cookies.

7-  Sleep More

Sleep is when your body recovers and heals itself. If you don’t get enough sleep your body cannot do this effectively. The recommended amount is 8 hours but it depends on the person. You each know the amount of time you need to function properly so make sure you are selfish enough to take it. Having a good routine of getting to get the bed at the same time and getting up at the same time each day will help you utilise your day.

8-  ‘Me’ Time

Everyone needs to do the things they love. It helps to keep you stimulated and full of life. Find something that makes YOU happy and challenges you or stimulates you. Whether it’s working out, taking up a new hobby/course or having a bath! Downtime is essential, it will keep you true to yourself!

9-  Stay True To Yourself

Sometimes in life you find yourself at a crossroads thinking “how did I get here?” Suddenly, a life you’ve been living doesn’t seem like your own. Don’t let yourself get to this point. It can be easy to lose yourself in making others happy, but remember it can’t be sustained. Do what makes you happy.

10- Be a Yes" person

Ever been invited to a new class, but too nervous that you might not be any good? Ever been invited on a night out, but “oh, think I’m just going to have a quiet one in”? Ever been asked on a date, but “hmmm I’m not too sure?”

Start saying “yes”. What’s the worst that can happen? Don’t let nerves, insecurities and laziness prevent you from having fun. So, get yourself to that “Piloxing” class and have a laugh. Squeeze into those jeans and dance on the bar. Go on that date as they might be the most wonderful person you’ve ever met….

Say “Yes”.
