It can be argued that strengthening the core is one of the most important things to focus on in training. The core protects the spine and allows us to have stability and balance. A common misconception is that the core is just about your abdominals, it's not! You also need to train your back, your glutes, and the entire area that connects to your spinal cord and helps your body support your spine, this is so that the burden of supporting your body weight isn’t just placed on your bones. If you have a strong core it will relieve lower back pain and hopefully eliminate it altogether.

Working on the core can be achieved through low impact workouts such as the plank, sit ups and pelvic raises. Most core work is completed with just your own bodyweight so it can be performed at home, outside or in the gym.
